Aaron Bushnell Father
David Bushnell, a significant figure in American history, made notable contributions during the Revolutionary War. Renowned as both an inventor and a physician, Bushnell crafted the pioneering submarine known as the “Turtle” in 1775 while pursuing studies at Yale University.
Distinguished by its ability to navigate underwater using a hand-cranked propeller, the Turtle represented the inaugural deployment of a submarine in combat. However, despite its innovation, the Turtle failed to achieve successful attacks on British vessels.
Additionally, Bushnell developed a mine capable of detonating upon contact with enemy ships. While these inventions did not alter the outcome of the war, they marked the inception of modern underwater warfare.
Born in 1740 in Westbrook, Connecticut, Bushnell received his education at Yale University. He passed away in either 1824 or 1826. His endeavors exemplified the ingenuity and perseverance of Americans during a pivotal period in history.

Danielle Bushnell, aged 57, has been a dedicated employee of Paraclete Press, the publishing department of the Community, for numerous years. Her son, Aaron, also gained experience as an intern there during his younger years.
The family’s affiliation with Paraclete Press has endured over time, demonstrating a profound bond with the organization through Danielle’s enduring tenure and Aaron’s prior involvement as an intern.
