A death row killer named Wesley Ira Purkey, 68, suffered one of the most excruciating feelings known to humanity. A grim autopsy has revealed the painful feeling he faced during his death. He was sentenced for the murder of Mary Bales and the rape and murder of Jennifer Long, 16. He also dismembered her.

Wesley Ira Purkey was given lethal injection pentobarbital after being sentenced to death for the rape and murder.

Pukey’s autopsy revealed that he suffered several bilateral acute pulmonary oedema. Forthy pulmonary oedema in the trachea and main stem bronchi was also reported.

Dr Gail Norman, a medical expert, stated that flash flood-like filling of Purkey’s lungs could only arise when an individual was alive. She also said that it would be the case of most, if not all, prisoners would encounter excruciating misery and drowning suffocation from pentobarbital.

Purkey Last Meal

Purkey requested pecan pie as his final meal. He had dementia also. According to, he asked to have the meal later. He didn’t realise that there would not be any later. Purkey also saw Bill Clinton on TV and said he would vote for him in the presidential election.

Criminal Records

In the year 2004, Purkey was sentenced to death for kidnapping, raping and killing 16-year-old Jennifer Long in 1998. He dismembered her body with a chainsaw and partially burned it in a fireplace.

In the year 1998, Purkey beat an 80-year-old polio patient to death with a claw hammer.

Purkey murdered Mary and pleaded guilty for her mother. Later he also confessed the murder of Jennifer Long. After which he was sentenced to death.

On Thursday, 16 July, he was put to death at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Purkey’s execution was the second execution which took place in the US in the last 17 years. Federal Court had halted the execution, but the US Supreme Court revoked it.
