In Chicago, Illinois, on July 1, 1962, Andre Keith Braugher was born. He has three older brothers and is the son of Sally and Floyd Braugher. Floyd operated heavy machinery, and Sally worked with the Postal Service.
After graduating from St. Ignatius College Prep, Braugher earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre in 1984. Then, in 1988, Andre earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Juilliard School along with the title of Most Outstanding Theatre Student.
