Keri Frahm was Mike Snyder’s ideal teammate and athlete in every way. That’s what made her premature death at age 25 hurt so much more.
“My heart still hurts,” the Frankenmuth track and cross country coach said. “If you check the boxes when you’re looking for an athlete on your team, she was that athlete. It’s just one of those things you don’t want to hear.”
Frahm, a 2016 state champion in discus, was killed in a car accident on Saturday in California.

“She was just a great young athlete, a great young person,” Snyder said. “She was an awesome discus and shot putter, but more than that she was that person who wanted to help everybody she was around. Just a great young lady, with a great personality.”
At Frankenmuth, Frahm excelled in volleyball, basketball, and track. Frahm won the state discus title in 2016 with a personal best throw of 138 feet, 4 inches, after placing second in the state in 2015 with a throw of 117 feet, 6 inches. As a junior, her 117-6 discus throw placed her in second place.
“She was really smart, and she carried that intelligence from the classroom to the court,” said Tom Keller, Frankenmuth’s girl’s basketball coach when Frahm played. “Even as a freshman, she understood the game. She understood the game better and better every year. She knew where she was supposed to be and where everybody else was supposed to be.”
She was a walk-on for the Ferris State women’s basketball team and quickly became an all-conference and all-area performer.

“She was just a really efficient player,” Keller said. “She knew what she was good at. She had excellent footwork inside and could score with either hand near the basket. She was really good from 15 feet in. To be 6-foot tall, physical, and long like she was … she was a tough kid to guard in the paint.
“She could have easily put up 20 and 12 on any given night, but she was just as content to share the basketball. She got as much joy in seeing teammates succeed as she did when she had success.“She was a great basketball player, a great student and an even better kid.”
Frahm earned a degree in hospitality management from Ferris in 2020. Before her untimely demise, she had been employed by Highway West Vacations and had been given a position as a flight attendant by Delta Air Lines.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Frankenmuth location of Cederberg Funeral Home and on Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Frankenmuth location of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
