2020 NBA Draft: Predicting The First 10 Picks

With the NBA season on pause, fans are looking to different things to satisfy their basketball needs. One of the most important topics right now is the upcoming 2020 NBA draft. For many teams that have had bad seasons, the draft is an option to get their next superstar. This can help them improve from the next season. Fans of bad teams often look to the draft more than the actual games. They want to find their next great player.

Unlike other drafts, the 2020 NBA draft has no clear superstar. In the 2019 draft, there was a consensus that Zion Williamson and Ja Morant would both be great NBA players. But there are no such players in the 2020 draft. There are a few players with great potential, however. On the right teams and in the right culture, they could be stars in the league. The following is a mock draft for the 2020 NBA draft.

NBA Draft 2020: Top 3 Picks

The first three picks in this mock draft go to Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and Cleveland Cavaliers in that order. The Golden State Warriors will use their No. 1 Pick on Anthony Edwards, the high-scoring 6’5 SG. Many are comparing him to Dwayne Wade and Victor Oladipo. He is not that good yet but the Warriors will bet on his potential.

The New York Knicks will take Lamelo Ball with the No. 2 pick to try and develop him into their next superstar. They will also hope that he can elevate RJ Barrett to the next level. Finally, the Cavs will take Deni Avdija with the 3rd pick. The team has a great young backcourt, and have too many centers on their roster. They will bet on Avdija developing into their elite wing player.

NBA Draft 2020: Picks 3-7

Picks 3-7 go to Atlanta, Minnesota, Detroit, and Chicago in that order. Atlanta will take Tyrese Haliburton, the 6’5 guard. Haliburton is a good shooter and can be a defensive stopper, which the team needs to cover up for Trae Young. Minnesota drafts Obi Toppin to give them a potential offensive powerhouse in Towns, Russel, and Toppin.

Then, Detroit drafts the best player on the board in James Wiseman. The Pistons are stuck right now, and drafting for fit is not exactly a priority for rebuilding teams. Finally, Chicago takes Aaron Nesmith, who is listed as a guard but has the size to play forward. Nesmith is a lethal shooter and can defend when focussed. He will fit well with the current core.

NBA Draft 2020: Picks 8-10

Picks 8-10 fall to Charlotte, San Antonio, and Phoenix respectively. Charlotte drafts Onyeka Okongwu, who can blossom into a Bam Adebayo type player. He will complement the team’s young versatile core well. San Antonio takes Isaac Okoro, giving them a potential cornerstone forward. The team knows how to develop talent and Okoro could reach his insane potential there. Finally, Phoenix addresses their l0ng-time need at PG and draft Cole Anthony, the high-scoring guard to play with Booker.
